Main Stay Cottages ( Winter Harbor )
Main Stay Cottages offer travelers an opportunity to enjoy modern cabins on the shore of Henry's Cove overlooking Cadillac Mountain and Acadia National Park. The 150 year-old boathouse cottage represents the passage of cultures connected to the sea and your hosts are the sixth generation to make their home on this land. Residents have long accessed the services available in Bar Harbor only a few minutes away by water, while enjoying the remoteness of this small fishing village. The Bar Harbor Ferry provides passenger service from our neighboring dock. The boathouse is one of the few remaining structures built at a time, when the water was the primary source of transportation and daily life evolved around the tides and the use of schooners to connect these homes on posts to the markets and resources of other villages. As roads joined the villages, Winter Harbor's summer colony developed around 1900 and paralleled the grandeur of Bar Harbor. Distance from major population centers has preserved the simplicity of a lifestyle of fishermen and their families over the decades.
